As other reviewers have pointed out the dual function buttons can be a pain to learn. Play with it, experiment and once you get used to how it works you will like this very basic player.
Unlike most other players, this unit uses a user replaceable AAA battery for power. I get over 24 hours of play on a rechargeable battery. I'd love an Ipod, but refuse to buy another consumer product without a user replaceable battery. Period!
I mostly listen to low bit rate, monophonic classic old radio shows. In the 2 gigabytes of available memory I can easily put 100+ hours of content on my Raven. It will play mp3 and wma files without any fuss at all.
When the unit is playing, a simple button press will skip forward or backward through your files. Not fast or efficient, but it gets the job done.
You don't need any other software to use this device. Just plug it into an available USB port. Your computer will see the Raven as a regular drive. Just dump your files in and off you go! I feed files into my 2 Ravens (of course the wife wanted one after she saw mine) from Windows and Linux machines.
